Hybrid Seminar: Mathematical Modelling at Network Rail (hiring!!)

November 4 @ 15:00 – 16:00

Dr Sunil Modhara is joining us for the next hybrid seminar on Wednesday 4th November at 3pm (Maths Building, A17 and online).

Sunil completed his PhD in applied mathematics at the University of Nottingham and joined the Advanced Analytics team at Network Rail in 2022 to develop computational models that describe how railway assets deteriorate over time. His team is currently hiring mathematical modellers to help build and develop these models. The role includes interpreting real-world processes, creating computational descriptions, analysing large volumes of data, and, importantly, engaging with stakeholders from a range of backgrounds. In his talk, Sunil will discuss the advertised position and explain the different modelling paradigms used at Network Rail. The talk will also cover challenges of describing complex engineering systems and illustrate how mathematical modelling informs real-world decision-making.
